Is Your To Do List Ruining Your Weekend?

This blog nearly ruined my weekend.  Seriously.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE writing to you.  PBE loves writing to you.  But the problem is that these blogs tend to be written over the weekend.  Why?  Because the weekend is open.  There’s headspace.  There’s downtime.  And therein lies the problem.

For years and years and years, like many of you, I used the weekends to just “catch up” on some work.  But then it became the norm and without realizing it, I found myself working 6 – 7 days a week.   And after a while I hit the wall and made a lifestyle overhaul which became the foundation for our ebook, Time To Reboot, A 21 Day Plan to Take Charge of Your Health, Your Work and Your Life.  

But I never fully broke the chains of the lure of catching up on work on the weekend.  Instead of actually doing the work, I found myself making the weekend list of the things I should be doing.  But not actually doing them.

All that did was make me anxious because I’d carry around this To- Do-List of the things I should be doing on the weekend.  You know things like, post my receipts, update Salesforce, write that video script on sit/stand stations, gather images for our new website design and of course, write a blog post.

And then my higher more evolved self  would counter and insist on work boundaries and living a balanced life and not do the things on the list.  But then I found I wasn’t fully relaxing because of the things that I ought to be doing, but choosing not to do.

So, after writing this blog (which has been the last remnant of weekend work), I vow to tear up the To Do List, and start fresh on Monday mornings.  Blog included.

Now it’s your turn.  Tell me…do you work on the weekend?  Do you tell yourself on Friday, you will, but then don’t and your list hangs over your head?
